Tyson Barnett
Tyson is 15 years old and was first diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma at just 10 years old in 2019. He began treatment with chemotherapy and radiation in Wichita, Kansas. During his six weeks of radiation, Tyson and his mom lived in a camper—facing each day with strength while also managing chemotherapy.
In May 2020, Tyson went into remission. For the next two years, he remained cancer-free, with regular scans every three months.
But in May 2022, during a routine scan, cancer was found in Tyson’s lower left lung. A biopsy confirmed the recurrence, and due to the size of the tumor, doctors had to remove 20% of his lung. Tumors were also discovered in the lymph nodes near his heart, prompting a referral to Children’s Mercy in Kansas City, where he could receive more advanced care.
There, Tyson began another round of chemotherapy and radiation, undergoing two more years of intense treatment. He entered remission again in May 2024, with ongoing scans to monitor his health.
Then, on January 22, 2025, Tyson and his family received heartbreaking news: his latest CT scan showed new tumors in his right lung. A biopsy confirmed the return of Ewing sarcoma, and a PET scan revealed further spread—including a tumor in his upper left femur.
Today, Tyson is continuing his fight. He is currently receiving chemotherapy at home and has completed radiation treatment on his femur. This young warrior has been battling cancer for nearly six years with unimaginable courage and resilience.
