Alejandro (Alex) Alvarez
Alex is a precious boy who loves superheroes and his older brothers. He has a wonderful, warm smile, which you can see shine through in his pictures.
In February of 2017, Alejandro (Alex) Alvarez was diagnosed with a Wilm’s Tumor at the ER in Topeka. He was flown to Children’s Mercy and spent nearly two months there, where the diagnosis of Stage 4 Wilm’s Tumor was confirmed. He started receiving chemotherapy and radiation and spent a lot of time in and out of the hospital.
In November 2017, Alex had a large part of the tumor removed along with his right kidney. Alex experienced many complications from this surgery and had three more surgeries to correct intestinal issues. These required lengthy hospital stays where he spent the holidays (through early 2018) at Children’s Mercy. In February, Alex had another hospital stay after being admitted for pneumonia.
The plan right now is to give his body a short amount of time to recover and start back on chemotherapy to address any remaining cells and cancerous tissue the surgery did not remove.
